Aqualisa Processors - Should I upgrade to the Pink Version?

As older Aqualisa processors reach the end of their service life, the Aqualisa Pink Processor provides a modern replacement for many of these previous versions.

Aqualisa have been making digital showers for 25 years, having launched the world's first digital shower in 2001.

As discussed in our blog: What are Digital Showers?  a digital shower uses electronic controls and a processor to manage the shower. In 2017 Aqualisa launched their range of 'Smart' Showers, evolving its digital technology into next generation models, with connectivity and intelligent features such as apps, profiles, voice control and usage monitoring.

On the older digital showers, the processor (which is the hidden control box which acts as the brain and mixing hub of the system) was either grey, black or orange. As these older processors reach the end of their service life, the Aqualisa Pink Processor provides a modern replacement for these previous versions. You can replace just the processor if this needs replacing (due to flow or temperature issues), whilst retaining your existing controls.

However, simply upgrading the processor does not make the shower a Smart shower. Features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, app control and voice activation require the appropriate Smart shower controller/hardware (as shown in the diagram above) to be installed.

Once the compatible Smart controller has also been upgraded, the system can then be classed as a Smart shower, giving you access to the connected features and functionality.

Why is the Pink Processor replacing the older versions?

The main reason for the move to the Pink Processor is the natural development of Aqualisa's digital shower technology. The Pink Processor incorporates updated technology while allowing compatible existing digital shower installations to be brought up to date.

This new version includes built-in Wi-Fi for smartphone app control and voice assistant integration (such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home). The pink processors are available for both high pressure systems - 910873 and low pressure/pumped systems - 910874.

The Evolution of the Aqualisa Digital Shower.

2007 – The birth of digital showering
The first generation marked the introduction of Aqualisa's digital showering technology. The processor provided the foundation for electronically controlled showering, replacing more traditional mechanical control methods.

2017 – Flow control and digital profiles
The next major development introduced flow control and pre-set features. Digital readout and profile functionality were also added, giving users greater control over their shower settings and allowing preferred settings to be stored.

2020 – Smart, connected showering
The Pink SmartValve generation represented a significant step forward. It introduced Wi-Fi connectivity and app control, allowing the shower to be controlled from a smartphone.
It also added:

  • Voice control
  • Personalised user profiles
  • Water-usage information through a dashboard
  • The ability to create a more personalised showering experience

This moved the SmartValve from simply being a digital processor to becoming a connected smart-home product.

2024 – The latest generation - Green Processor - Not available currently
The newest generation takes the SmartValve concept further, introducing the new Aqualisa app and making the shower even more integrated into the connected home.

The Bottom Line

The Aqualisa Pink Processor represents the newer replacement generation for the older grey, black and orange processor models.

If you have an ageing Aqualisa digital shower and the processor has failed, you do not need to replace the entire shower. The Pink Processor can replace the older processor while allowing other components of the system to remain in place, until you are ready to replace the controls.
